School Resource Officers (SROs) assigned to the Winston-Salem / Forsyth County Schools (WSFCS) are employees of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) and are sworn Deputy Sheriffs.
Forsyth County has one of the earliest known programs in the State of North Carolina, dating back to 1974. The original program began with only three SROs and their main purpose was to provide security in two high schools and one middle school.
WS/FCS determines the number of SROs each year; currently SROs are assigned to all the middle schools and high schools throughout Forsyth County. SROs maintain order and security on school property during both normal hours and special school sanctioned events. They provide professional law enforcement assistance to parents, students, and school staff members, including conducting criminal, non-criminal, and drug-related investigations in cooperation with school administration. Most importantly, SROs build relationships with our students while providing support and resources for WS/FCS students and staff.
