Director's Message
Welcome to the Forsyth County Youth Services Center website. It is our intent to
share with you some aspects of our work and the youth we serve within our facility.
The Youth Center is one of 14 juvenile detention centers in the state. Ten facilities
are state operated (Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention) and four
are county operated (Forsyth, Guilford, Durham and Mecklenburg).
It is our mission to house youth who have been accused of committing a criminal
offense in a safe, healthy and secure environment until the court has determined
a disposition. We detain approximately 280 juveniles per year. The average length
of stay for a juvenile is 17 days. A variety of services and programs are offered
to our residents with the intent of promoting personal responsibility, good decision
making and the development of positive social skills (see programs). In addition,
both mental and physical health care are an intrical part of our program.
We invite you browse our website and learn more about the important work we do to
promote public safety and positively intervene in the life of a young person in
the juvenile justice system.
