Friends of the Rural Hall Library
The Friends of the Rural Hall/Stanleyville Branch Library were organized in 1985.
The current membership exceeds 120 members. The standing meeting time is the third
Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Please consider joining this worthwhile group.
The Friends group provides strong support for the Library and funds programs, materials,
furniture, and computers. The Friends coordinate two book sales each year in the
spring and fall. They also sponsor a smaller ongoing book sale in the library during
the rest of the year. Friends’ money has provided programs and supplies for the
summer reading club for kids and year-round programming for adults like holiday,
gardening, and craft programs. Friends have also donated thousands of dollars toward
the purchase of books, DVDs, CDs, and furniture over the years. They purchased the
LCD projector for the auditorium as well.
In 2000 the Friends published Our Neighbors, Our Heroes: An Oral History of Rural
Hall, North Carolina World War II Veterans: Their Memories Before, During and After
the War.
