Sergeant James Milton Johnson
Killed in the line of duty November 11, 2004


Sergeant Johnson, a reserve officer, was shot and killed attempting to subdue a neighbor who had started shooting people in the neighborhood. During the same incident another Deputy Sheriff was wounded and two civilians were killed by the gunman.

Captain Jack ("Red") Conrad Renigar
Killed in the line of duty May 30, 1975


Captain Jack Conrad RenigarCaptain Renigar, a reserve officer, was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a suspect who had shot and killed Deputy Wayne Gaither of the Davie County Sheriff's Office. The suspect had been cornered in a small convenience store and was exchanging shots with officers. A couple pulled into the parking lot of the store during the shootout, not knowing what was happening. Captain Renigar was shot by the suspect when he stood up from his covered position to warn the couple.

Jack "Red" Renigar organized and was the first Captain of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Reserves.

Deputy Sheriff Ernest Wilson Walters
Killed in the line of duty Feb. 23, 1966


Deputy Walters was shot and killed while serving a civil process. He had asked the suspect to secure her dog to prevent it from getting out of the house. The woman then retrieved a shotgun and killed Deputy Walters.

Deputy Sheriff T. N. Westmoreland
Killed in the line of duty April 26, 1950


Deputy Westmoreland was stabbed to death while making an arrest.

Deputy Sheriff Linder Newsome
Killed in the line of duty Feb. 23, 1929


Deputy Newsome was killed when his patrol car crashed. At the time of his death, he was in a vehicle pursuit while chasing thieves. He was Forsyth County's first Deputy Sheriff to give his life in the performance of his duty and had been with the Sheriff's Office for 17 years.
