On May 12, 2010, Deputy Brown was assigned to 4C Dormitory. Deputy Brown was notified that the inmate assigned to cell 4C-02 had activated his emergency call button. He immediately responded to Inmate’s cell. Upon speaking with inmate, Deputy Brown observed blood on the wall of the cell and also noticed blood coming from inmate’s left arm. Deputy Brown immediately placed mechanical restraints on the wrists of inmate so that he could not harm himself further. He then called via radio that there was an attempted code orange in 4C-02 and requested that the Charge Nurse and Supervisor respond. The inmate was moved to the 4 south multipurpose room where his wounds were treated by Charge Nurse. The inmate stated that he had used a toothbrush to cut his arm. Because of the self inflicted wounds and the nature of the wounds the inmate was re-classed to cell 8D-08 and placed on Active Suicide Watch. The promptness and attentiveness of Deputy Charles Brown prevented the inmate from inflicting additional injury.
