Tanglewood Bluebird Trail Goes Digital

Mark Serosky, Director Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Department has recently approved the mapping of Tanglewood Park’s Eastern Bluebird nest-box trail using a digital format.

The GPS location as well as nesting information for each of the forty-one current and future nesting boxes will be recorded using the Thales Mobile Mapper CE. Nesting census data will be posted to the “Nest Info” page of Tanglewood’s website (www.tanglewoodpark.org) starting in April 2001.

Christopher S. Weavil, Tanglewood Park Maintenance Supervisor and Bill Abbey, park Volunteer Trail monitor have developed the GPS position map and data collection spread sheet which will be used in collecting and recording future nesting data for the Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialis). Postings will occur as nesting begins in March/April. A ten year summary of bluebird data will be added later. Tanglewood Park and Arboretum is listed in the North Carolina Birding Trail, Piedmont Series (ISBN 978-0-8078-5917-9)
