Stroke Awareness Program

Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, and it can also cause serios long-term disability in an individual according to the Center for Disease Control. A stroke happens every 45 seconds, and there are several factors in your life that you can modify to decrease or even prevent the chance of stroke.

You are invited to attend a program on stroke prevention to be presented by Rayetta Johnson, RN, Health Educator and Stroke Program Manager, Neuroscience Nurse Specialist, with Wake Forest Baptist Health. Ms. Johnson will share personal work experience of how a stroke can change your life and will also share changes that an individual can make to prevent stroke.

The American Library Association has partnered with the National Institute of Health to promote Go4Life, an exercise and physical activity campaign from the National Institute on Aging designed to help individuals include exercise and physical activity into their daily life. The DVD, Go4Life Everyday Exercises is available for checkout at any Library location.

We also invite you to visit the city of Winston-Salem for information about Piedmont Plus Senior Games, a program promoting year-round health and fitness for local adults 55 and older.
