Lanterns of Hope and Peace: A Ceremony Inspired from Hiroshima's Lantern Memorials

Forsyth County Public Library’s annual lantern lighting and floating ceremony honoring multicultural peace and understanding will be held on Saturday, September 9, from 12 - 8 p.m. at Corpening Plaza (231 West First Street) in downtown Winston-Salem. Come and create a lantern, and express your own hopes for peace. We will light all the lanterns at 7:30 p.m. The beautiful and dramatically lit lanterns inspire a spirit of peace and unity in all those who attend.

Lanterns of Hope at the International Village is a multicultural family program which, probably more than any other event in Forsyth County, brings us together to celebrate our diverse community. The varied entertainment, food, crafts, showcasing different cultural traditions, and the overall Lanterns of Hope program, remind us that diversity is a blessing to cherish!

“Reading can promote tolerance and peace. The more we read, the more reflection we make, and the more understanding we can develop about other people’s customs, traditions, religions, beliefs and ethnicity.” Betsy Sahetapy, Jakarta Post, October 15, 2011.
