Hot and sunny skies have allowed for air quality levels to rise into the lower Code YELLOW range this afternoon as the Triad remains in a temporary lull in convective activity prior to showers/storms developing along a cold front moving in from the west later this evening. An upper-level trough axis remains west of the Triad and will sharpen over the next few days, providing favorable support for unsettled weather tomorrow through Saturday morning. Skies should remain mostly cloudy through the period, though some brief breaks in the cloud deck could result in some sun shining through at times. Regardless, air quality levels will likely fall to Code GREEN with the increase in cloud cover and scattered shower activity. Saturday will likely start off mostly cloudy before giving way to partly sunny skies by the afternoon, with air quality levels remaining Code GREEN. The upper-level trough axis passes east of the Triad on Sunday as winds shift to northwesterly coming off the Appalachians to enhance low-level drying across the region, with ozone levels likely approaching upper Code GREEN AQI by the afternoon.
